I hope you are safe and sound! Today, I would love to share another fabulous power of matcha!
As I’ve mentioned before, matcha truly is the most amazing superfood- in one blog post I talked about how matcha green tea KEEPS US CALM and in another blog post I mention how EGCG in Matcha green tea can support our immunity and PREVENT CORONAVIRUS.
LET’S TAKE ZINC!
During all this time at home, I happened to come across an interesting video about new studies on zinc and how it is a powerful mineral that can help the body fight against the coronavirus. I did some more digging and found out matcha is a powerful food that helps the body better absorb zinc! Let me explain how it works.
ZINC NEEDS HELP TO BE ABSORBED
When we eat foods high in zinc, our body is reliant on ionophores to transport zinc minerals into the cell. Without this our cells would not be able to absorb zinc and gain its health benefits. I learnt this from Dr Roger Seheult’s videos uploaded this March on the YouTube channel MedCram, which I will link here.
The video goes on to explain that studies suggest zinc has helped the body stop the coronavirus replication process, essentially helping the body fight the virus.
Video- You can fast forward to 3.50 where Dr. Roger Seheult explains how zinc prevents viruses and how ionophores work.
MATCHA SUPPORTS ZINC ABSORPTION
I have learnt that matcha green tea can help our blood cells absorb zinc! Now I’m no scientist, but let me share what I have discovered.
The video above explains chloroquine can act as ionophores, but the downside is that you need a prescription to buy them (and they can also have side-effects).
Studies show EGCG can replicate the actions of ionophores without any side effects- and Matcha is rich in EGCG
So! If you take zinc and drink matcha green tea, your body will be able to maximise on zinc absorption and therefore maximise on the health benefits that help our bodies fight against viruses!
Zinc metabolizes nutrients, maintains your immune system and grows and repairs body tissues.
Foods that are rich in zinc include:
- Legumes- like chickpeas, lentils and beans
- Shellfish- particularly oysters
- Seeds- including hemp seeds, squash, pumpkin and sesame seed
- Nuts- such as pine nuts, peanuts, cashews and almonds can boost your intake of zinc.
- Whole grains like wheat, quinoa, rice and oats contain some zinc.
For more information you can follow this website about zinc-rich foods!
Well, this study is still early stage but having matcha and zinc into your life has so many health benefits anyway so why don’t we take them more consciously during this pandemic?
Wishing everyone health and happiness
xx
