Vegan Vietnamese lunch at Aobaba, Dublin Ireland

During my stay in Ireland, I went to Dublin and discovered Aobaba, a fantastic spot for Vietnamese food with excellent vegan options. It was the perfect place to satisfy my cravings for Asian food after spending a month in Europe eating mostly Western food.

Diverse Menu

I visited Aobaba with my hubby and brother-in-law, who is not vegan and had never tried Vietnamese food before. Fortunately, the restaurant offers both vegan and non-vegan options, making it easy for us to order a variety of dishes that suited our preference!

Affordable Prices

One of the highlights of Aobaba, is its affordability. During our time in Ireland, the Australian dollar was weak against the Euro, making everything quite expensive. However, this restaurant offered great prices, allowing us to enjoy a hearty meal without worrying too much about the price.

Affordable & lots of dishes to pick from – including vegan options!

Spring Rolls (Rice paper/summer rolls)

We started with the rice paper rolls. While tasty, we found the filling a bit lacking compared to other places. They were light and refreshing but could have used a bit more flavour to really stand out. Sharing them among the three of us was a great idea because, on their own the rice paper rolls were quite filling and could easily be a meal

Vegetarian Summer Rolls (€5.00)

Vegetarian Spring Rolls

These crispy delights were perfectly golden and stuffed with a savoury filling that was both flavourful and satisfying. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size.

Spring rolls paired with Sweet Chilli Sauce (€5.50)

Vegetarian Fried Rice (Vegan version, no egg)

The fried rice was again, quite big portion that was perfect for sharing. It was packed with an array of fresh ingredient, including tofu, wombok and bean sprouts, which provided a nice mixture of textures and flavours.

Fried Rice- big portion! (€12.00)

Vegan Pho

The vegan pho was warm, comforting bowl of deliciousness that made my tummy so. Despite having had Asian food in Kilkenny, where my husband’s hometown is, this was my first noodle soup in Ireland and it did not disappoint!

Vegan Pho (€13.00)

Vietnamese pancake: Bánh xèo

The Vietnamese pancake, or Banh Xeo, was another highlight. This crispy, savoury pancake was filled with a modest amount of vegetables, which was actually a good thing for my brother-in-law who was new to this cuisine. While it had fewer veggies than I’m used to, it was a delicious introduction to Vietnamese pancakes without overwhelming a first-timer.

Freshly made Bánh xèo with vegetables (€8.50)

Bubble Tea Delight

They also had vegan bubble tea as well! You start by choosing your base I opted for milk tea with soy milk instead of cow’s milk. I chose taro flavour, which was not too sweet but absolutely delicious.

Left: Customisable bubble tea menu (€4.50+)                                                    Right: Taro bubble Tea

Vietnamese in Australia

In Australia, we have a huge Vietnamese community, making it easy to find high-quality Vietnamese food. While Aobaba might not be the most amazing Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever visited, it was a pleasant surprise to find such a goof variety of vegan Vietnamese options in Ireland. In you’re in Ireland and craving Asian Cuisine, I highly recommend Aobaba for its delicious food, great food, great prices and accommodating menu.
