Matcha green tea is rich in L-theanine, which is an amino acid found commonly in green tea leaves that helps with relaxation without feeling drowsy.

This is because of the L-theanine and antioxidants in matcha that influences and promotes dopamine and serotonin levels, which in turn, lessens anxiety and stress. With your state of mind being calmer and less stressed out, this also boosts your mood and productivity without effects of drowsiness or adrenaline rush.

Matcha does contain caffeine but it won’t give you negative side-effects such as jitteriness like coffee does. This is also because when the high concentrations of L-theanine in matcha is paired with the caffeine content, it not only minimises anxiety but does not make you jittery, nervous or increases your heart rate.

To do so, I recommend sitting somewhere peaceful and just fully enjoying your cup of matcha green tea for a few minutes by taking in the aroma and taste of the tea without any disruptions or interruptions. This will allow you to calm your mind and drift away from any thoughts and focus on your breathing. Be sure to also take deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly.
