We had a private vegan cooking class near Newtown, so we went to Golden Lotus after the class! It has been a long time since the last time I went there, but I am so glad to be back, they are absolutely fabulous.
A Vegan Gem in the heart of Newtown
It was very hard to pick because there are so many yummy-looking dishes, but we ordered a mixed appetisers plate.
Mixed Appetisers Plate – $15.8
The plate is a combination of vegan duck pancakes, satay skewers, spring rolls and vegetable dumplings.
It is amazing to be able to try many items! I normally don’t like satay because they are sweet, but it wasn’t sweet at all and very nice. What a great surprise!
For main, we ordered pho. I can’t go home without ordering pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup!
Pho (Vegan Chicken OR Tofu & Veggies) – (we choose Vegan Chicken) – $16.8
Southern-style pho broth, saw-leaf herb, rice noodles, onion, Tofu & Veggies or Chicken. Bean sprouts, fresh basil, fresh chilli and lemon/lime are served on the side.
It was absolutely flavourful and had many yummy things on the top – not only vegan chicken ( yum ) but also deep-fried knotted tofu skin and vegan fish cake like… omg, sooo delicious
I really think Golden lotus serves the best vegan pho!
For another main, we ordered a Broken rice dish that comes with vegan meat.
Broken Rice – (I think this dish is not available now since I could not find it on the menu…)
I used to love ordering broken rice at Vietnamese restaurants. Broken Rice (Com Tam) is a popular type of white rice served with many Vietnamese dishes. You can often see it in rice plates featuring a combination of grilled meats, egg meatloaf, salad and pickles.
Of course, it was a vegan version, and it was yum! The vegan meat was a bit too sweet, but it was great to eat with light pho noodle soup.
I think we ordered so perfectly – it was balanced very well and all dishes are just absolutely fabulous.
I can happily say that Golden Lotus is my top 3 favourite restaurant in Sydney!
I wish I could go more often – I just hate to drive there since it is so hard to park and a bit awkward to drive where I live ( I am sure most people don’t think it’s a problem, but I am not good at driving…).
If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend going there. It’s just so nice!
