Neko Neko- Vegan Japanese meal in Fitzroy Melbourne

We had an amazing and delicious vegan Japanese meal at Neko Neko while we were here in Melbourne.

There is also a Neko Neko in Sydney, but I have never had the chance to go there, so I am super happy that I finally got to enjoy their Japanese vegan dishes here in Melbourne!

Neko Neko is not a vegan restaurant, but they do offer a wide range of vegan Japanese options on the menu.

As a starter, we had the Pan fried Quinoa Gyoza. I love the presentation of it, and it is always great to have some fresh veggies.

We then ordered the Vegan Beans and Potato Croquette Mini Burger, which had a slight curry flavour. They do not do both the gyoza and croquette in a typical Japanese style but with an interesting fusion twist, which is nice!

For the main, I was struggling to choose between teishoku and ramen, so I asked one of their friendly staff which one I should order.

I was going to go to another restaurant (Wabi Sabi Salon, which is actually owned by the same owner of Neko Neko) the next day so I told her that is my plan and she told me that both restaurants serve teishoku but only Neko Neko serves vegan ramen! So, I ended up ordering the ramen at Neko Neko and vegan teishoku at Wabi Sabi Salon the next day (I was actually dreaming because I had to leave Melbourne the next morning so I ended up not being able to go to Wabi Sabi Salon).

I ordered the Spicy Tofu Ramen and my hubby had the Tan Tan creamy noodle ramen.

Spicy Tofu Ramen- $20

The ramen was not only yummy but also healthy and aesthetically pleasing! I love the fact that there are some veggies like bok choy, shiitake mushroom and raw veggies such as julienne leek!

It also has good proteins like tofu, edamame and cashew nuts making it healthy, well-balanced and yummy (that is exactly what I love)!

The noodles used are thick Chijire-men, which are wavy noodles. Wavey noodles are better at absorbing the soup compared to straight noodles.

Tan Tan Ramen- $19

I definitely prefer the spicy ramen while my hubby told me he prefers the tan tan ramen, so I can’t really tell you which one is better you will have to pick based on preferences.

My hubby and I were super happy to dine here! Although I could not eat teishoku (which is a Japanese set meal comprising side dishes that accompany the main dish) because I did not have another night in Melbourne to dine at Wabi Sabi Salon, I can and MUST go to the Neko Neko in Sydney to enjoy teishoku. Thank god there is a Neko Neko in Sydney!

If you love healthy and yummy vegan Japanese food, I highly recommend you go to Neko Neko (in Melbourne & Sydney) or Wabi Sabi Salon (in Melbourne).
