4 Ways Matcha Can Help With Heart Health

It’s no mystery that the heart is one of the most important organs, but did you know that in Australia, coronary heart disease is responsible for the most disease-related deaths? And across the world, rates of heart disease are steadily increasing! Luckily, one of the many health benefits of Matcha is that it can help with heart health! Continue reading to find 4 ways matcha can help with heart health.

4 ways matcha can Help with heart health

Here are 4 ways Matcha can help with heart health:

  1. Antioxidants in Matcha help with healthy blood flow

Oxidation causes cholesterol to cling to the walls of your arteries, leading to blockages and stopping blood flow. Coronary artery disease develops when the arteries are unable to supply sufficient amounts of blood to the heart. However, due to its high level of antioxidant substances, Matcha can actually prevent these blockages.

These antioxidants also play a large role in cell repair, particularly the catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Any damaged heart cells will receive extra love and care from Matcha and its antioxidants.

  1. Matcha reduces inflammation and keeps arteries, veins, and capillaries healthy

EGCG also happens to be anti-inflammatory, which can help to reduce irritation and inflammation in the blood vessels. Irritated blood vessels lead to plaque build-up that enter the arteries and produce blood clots that lead to high blood pressure and more serious complications. It is important to ensure the endothelial cells, found in the arteries, veins and capillaries, are not inflamed as they come into direct contact with our blood cells. Not doing so results in higher risks of heart attacks and strokes.

  1. Vitamins in Matcha that boost heart health

Matcha boasts concentrated amounts of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E , K and more than half of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A carotene in just 1 gram of powder! It is known that Vitamin E prevents heart disease through the detoxification of free radicals in the body that damage artery walls. Vitamin C also aids in the prevention of plaque build-up in the arteries.

  1. Minerals in Matcha that boost heart health

Iron, potassium, zinc, phosphorous, calcium and magnesium are all minerals found in Matcha, and whilst all benefit the body in some way, potassium and magnesium have been found to aid in heart disease prevention. Research shows that insufficient levels of magnesium are linked to higher blood pressure, so consuming Matcha will replenish these levels. It was also found that the mineral can protect the heart from the stress of exercise.

Potassium has been known to help regulate blood pressure, and insufficient levels can even lead to the calcification and hardening of arteries.

Matcha boasts a wide range of health and beauty benefits: not only does Matcha reduce the risk of heart disease, but it also has been proven to boost energy and mood, promote weight-loss as an appetite suppressant, and can even reduce inflammation and redness for a perfect complexion.
