Super Easy Vegan Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream Recipe

ARE YOU A MATCHA HATER? IF SO, IT MAY BE DUE TO A MAJORITY OF POOR-QUALITY MATCHA PRODUCTS FOUND ON THE MARKET

Many of us now know that Matcha green tea is great for our health and beauty – from helping with weight loss, anti-ageing and reducing inflammation, to preventing heart and brain diseases and the list goes on. But unfortunately, there are lots of Matcha haters due to poor quality matcha or even fake matcha on the market. I’ve tasted quite a few bad matcha products in Sydney, so please don’t give up on matcha if that has also been your experience! High quality matcha prepared in the right way makes a huge difference!

MAKE SURE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MATCHA’S HEALTH AND BEAUTY BENEFITS

A great way to start having matcha is by eating matcha ice cream! I am sure some of you have tried matcha ice cream at Japanese restaurants. BUT if you want to take advantage of matcha’s health and beauty benefits, YOU MUST AVOID TAKING DAIRY PRODUCTS WITH MATCHA. The catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is responsible for most of matcha’s health and beauty benefits, is not able to be absorbed in your body when consumed with dairy products.  Yep, you won’t reap the benefits from regular green tea ice cream since it contains dairy like milk and cream! Your matcha latte or matcha cheesecake at your favourite cafe won’t help either. But, with my recipe, you can still enjoy your matcha ice cream while taking advantage of matcha’s health and beauty benefits!

TRY THIS SUPER EASY RECIPE

You might be thinking, ‘making ice cream at home is super hard…’, don’t worry. All you need is to melt some store-bought, dairy-free ice cream – the kind that uses soy or almond milk– and add matcha dissolved with water. How fabulous that you can make this iconic Japanese green tea ice cream so quickly at home and still enjoy all its health and beauty benefits. I used to teach this recipe in my cooking classes for years and my students were always so delighted at how simple they can do it themselves.

Matcha Green Tea  Ice Cream

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1Lt vanilla soy ice cream or vanilla ice cream
  • tbsp green tea powder
  • tbsp water

Method

  1. Place the vanilla soy ice cream in a stainless steel bowl and allow it to soften.
  2. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl mix together the green tea powder and water until you have a very smooth paste.
  3. Add the green tea mixture to the softened ice cream and using a spatula combine well.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 45 minutes or until firm.

Memo:

You can transfer the ice cream back into the original tub however this will slow the freezing time, for faster freezing leave in the stainless steel bowl.
