Why Seaweeds Are the Secret to Japanese Longevity

The Okinawan diet, famous for producing some of the world’s longest-living centenarians, is a nutrient-rich, alkaline way of eating—and one of its star superfoods is seaweeds 

Seaweeds have long been celebrated as a natural way to detox, nourish, and support overall wellbeing.

For me, seaweeds aren’t just a superfood; they’re a daily ritual. As many of you know, my cooking centres around the alkaline diet, and seaweeds are one of the most alkalising foods on the planet. I eat them almost every day, and I truly believe they’ve played a big role in my wellbeing, including the fact that at 52, I barely have any grey hair and have had zero menopausal symptoms so far! 

At 52, my hair remains naturally vibrant with very few greys, a benefit I credit in part to my daily seaweed-rich, alkalising diet.

At 52, I still don’t have many grey hairs; no need to dye yet! I’m sure my daily seaweed habit plays a big part.

 

Why Seaweeds Are So Good for Us? 

Seaweeds are one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth. They’re: 

Detoxifying, especially brown seaweeds contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber binds and releases toxins, while insoluble fiber supports healthy digestion. 

Rich in minerals, like iodine, calcium, magnesium, and zinc — great for your thyroid, energy, and strong bones.? 

Packed with vitamins, A, C, E, K and B vitamins for glowing skin and immunity.? 

Extremely alkalizing, helping balance your body and reduce fatigue and inflammation.? 

Full of antioxidants and fibre, to support gut, heart, and metabolic health. 

Low in calories, high in umami, making meals delicious and healthy! 

 

HOW DO I ADD SEAWEED INTO MY MEALS? 

Incorporating seaweed into your daily routine is much easier than most people think. Just a few simple swaps and additions can instantly boost the nutrition and flavour of your meals. Seaweed’s natural umami makes healthy cooking effortless and delicious.
