Vegan Yum- Cha at D’life Signature in Singapore

Eating in Singapore can be expensive but also very cheap if you go to the right areas; the western food in Singapore is highly expensive but the Asian food can be cheap without compromising it’s high quality. D’life Signature is a yum cha restaurant that is highly affordable and has many high-quality dishes;

Entrance

Xian Long Bao

This dish was served with shredded ginger and soy sauce. There was no mock meat inside, only veggies.  It was so juicy and absolutely delicious!

Xian Long Bao($4.8)

Truffle Mushroom Bun

This dish had a nice flavour and aroma of mushroom- very tasty dish

Truffle Mushroom bun ($5)

Fried Pumpkin Cake

It had a mochi like texture and was deep fried with panko – it was nice and sweet!

Fried Pumpkin cake ($4.6)

Gyoza

The gyoza had an Interesting shape, which made it different from Japanese gyoza, It had a lot of green veggies inside but the taste was still amazing!

Gyoza ($4.8)

Emerald Dumpling

This was my least favorite dish as the color was not as bright as I expected, but mainly because it had mock meat inside. I was definitely not a fan!

Emerald Dumplings ($4.2)

Jade Dumpling

The dumplings were very thin and had translucent skin, which is lovely, but it was too thin so filling fell out and was really messy to eat!

Jade Dumplings ($4.8)

The menu was huuuuge, so I got curious about other non dim sum dishes; so besides ordering a lot of dim sum, we also ordered a few dishes from non dim sum area

 Ho fun

Ho fun is a type of rice noodle that is wide, flat, and slightly thicker than other types of rice noodles. The Ho fun was thick, chewy and silky that was served with ample gravy that was cooked over high heat. It was just sooo yum!! I still can’t believe we got a big portion and it was only $7.6!  This was my most favourite dish!

Ho Fun ($7.6)

Herbal Congee

There was chicken, meat, fish ball or Abalone congee ( all plant based ) to choose from but since I am not a fan of fake meat these days,  we ordered the  herbal Congee!

At other places I have ordered Congee and they weren’t so fabulous,  so I wanted to try and eat a good one, and glad I ordered here!  The Herbal congee contained a lot of ginger which was so good. Other ingredients they cooked congee with was Jujube, the red Chinese dates, lotus seeds, deep fried bread and Nori wrapped mock fish! I was bit worried, herbal congee can be too healthy and boring but it was filled with flavour and texture., and big portion!

Herbal Congee ($7.6)

Sambal French beans

I can’t remember which size we ordered but I am sure it was small size because we ordered a lot of Dim sum, But the size wasn’t small at all. My hubby loves French beans that is why we ordered. The sambal was very spicy but it was so yum!

Sambal French beans you can choose size..  $12.8 / $18.7 /$24.6

Dessert

From dim sum area we ordered:

Lava Bun

The lava bun had vegan custard inside and a coconut flavour, which was a minus because I am not a fan of coconuts but luckily it wasn’t too strong. It came out so hot and the custard just melted in your mouth, it was delicious!

Lava Bun ($4.2)

Chestnut Bun

This dessert had a nice and creamy chestnut cream inside, and wasn’t too sweet- so YUMM. I liked this the most among the three desserts!!!

Chestnut Bun ($4.8)

Tau Sar Piah

According to my research Tau sar piah means “bean paste biscuit” in Chinese, and are small, round, flaky pastries from Penang, Malaysia, with a sweet or savory mung bean paste filling. But what we ate was red bean paste and they were flat, wrapped with mochi like texture; it was more like flattened Chinese sesame balls . The menu picture shows like this so we were expecting flattened version of Chinese sesame balls.  It was warm,  chewy and sweet – very yummy!  But it would be nice to try Penang mungbean version of Tau Sar Piah in the future. I am sure they are also delicious!

 Tau Sar Piah ($4.8)

I just got too excited to try many dishes, so we over- ordered. We ended up taking some leftovers to the hotel; the sweets were nicer when they cooled down abit and I ate leftover Hofun and congee which was still tasty even though it was not hot!

D’life Signature is an amazing place to eat!

If you are a vegan, you would love this place! This restaurant has a huge menu including Singaporean dishes in vegan versions like Bak kut teh,  and Hainanese chicken rice. So if you want to enjoy Singaporean dishes in vegan version (I didn’t eat these because I had these before ) or if you simply want to enjoy Chinese vegan yum cha or Chinese dishes at a good price, this is the place! With this menu, you can find the dish you like, and they even have allium-free options (onion, garlic, leeks and more )  I highly recommend it!!!
