I always love trying out a new (and good!) Italian restaurant – but it’s hard to find any vegan Italian in Sydney! Lots of Italian dishes tend to contain dairy products like cheese and cream, which is not the best for our health. But, Bootleg Italian in Paddington is the perfect vegan dinner location– it’s 100% dairy-free! They also specialise in home-made pasta, made fresh daily and cooked perfectly!
Bootleg is located on Oxford Street – The main road in Paddington
I’m so glad that I finally got to visit this restaurant, since I’ve heard that this place serves really high quality vegan Italian foods. Plus, their interior was really cute as well! The whole concept was definitely very old-school Italian – Its black-and-white tile floors perfectly matches the olive green walls, and the pink plates on the tables were definitely my favourite part!
Bootleg Italian’s Interior
After doing some serious research, I found a dish I should definitely try : The Garlic Dough Balls – So many people were talking about this dish.
It’s like freshly made fluffy bread with lots of garlic butter. Much bigger than I thought and very filling. Started to wonder on whether we ordered too much carbs, but very yum anyways!
Entrée 1 – Garlic Dough Balls ($12)
Next up is the Truffle Arancini – This one was so so good. Its made with mushrooms, black truffle, white wine sugo, topped with Bootlegs ricotta and basil.
Entrée 2 – Truffle Arancini ($20)
Moving on to the mains, I ordered their signature Vodka Rigatoni and the Bascaiola.
The Vodka Rigatoni was their signature dish so I couldn’t miss out on this – They recommended putting some chili on it, and I must say it did a really good job with bringing the flavour out!
We also ordered the Bascaiola, or otherwise known as ‘Woodman’s Pasta’, a classic Italian sauce typically made with mushrooms, house-made bacon, garlic, cashew cream, and fresh parsley with fettucini. In this case, they made a vegan version so no bacon was involved! Unfortunately, this was recently removed from their menu 🙁
Main 1 – Signature Vodka Rigatoni ($28)
Main 2 – Bascaiola (no longer on the menu)
We all know desserts are a must, and since there were only 2 dessert options available on their menu, I decided to order both! Loved how they were not super sweet too!
Dessert 1 – Tiramisu ($16)
Dessert 2 – Salted Dark Chocolate Tart ($14)
Their salted dark chocolate tart is made with salted dark chocolate and olive oil crust (yum!). When I first saw the tart, I thought it looked a bit too small but it ended up being the perfect size and was also very rich in flavour!
I saw quite a few people ordering the polenta chips and I’m very interested in trying their vegan salami as well, so if I have another chance to dine here I would love to try these entrees!
