Vegan Course Meal at Amah by Ho Jiak, Chatswood

Looking back on a memorable dining experience, I’m excited to revisit my time at Amah by Ho Jiak in Chatswood. A while ago, I indulged in their bottomless vegan course meal with my assistant, and it was worth it. Usually I’m not the one to drink so I didn’t really care much about the bottomless drink, however my assistant on the other hand loved to drink and really enjoyed it!

For our meal we decided to get the set meal; the bottomless brunch dinner that was only $68 per person!

While I opted for sparkling water throughout the meal, the availability of mocktails was a pleasant surprise. For those who enjoy a refreshing beverage with their meal, this is a fantastic option!

Starting drinks: Mocktail & Martini

Dumplings

The meal started with some delectable dumplings. Fresh and bursting with flavour, these little bites were a perfect appetiser.

Appetisers: Buddha’s Delight Dumplings

Spring Rolls

Crispy and golden, the spring rolls were a hit. There’s something universally satisfying about a well-fried spring roll, and these did not disappoint.

Appetisers: Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Curry Vegetables

This dish was a standout. The curry vegetables, accompanied by slightly sweet, deep-fried mantou, were possibly my favourite of the day. The curry had a robust flavour with a hint of sourness, giving it an authentic edge that I loved.

Fried Rice

The fried rice was a delightful surprise. With celery, pea, and eggplant, it offered a unique twist on the traditional fried rice. As an eggplant lover, I was thrilled with this new combination. It was refreshing to see such a creative approach to vegan fried rice—much more exciting than the usual pea, carrot, and corn.

Mains: Vegan Fried Rice

Indomie Goreng

The Indomie Goreng was another highlight. Featuring deep-fried tofu, bean sprouts, and choy sum, it was full of flavour and had a generous portion size. This dish provided a hearty, satisfying element to the meal.

Chap Choy

Chao Choy is your typical Chinese-style mixed braised vegetable stew, for those extra cabbage or other vegetables you have leftover, that is packed with flavor! This dish, composed of cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, and topped with crispy deep-fried tofu skin, was a lovely accompaniment. Its milder flavour was a great counterbalance to the bolder dishes.

Garlic Chili Kangkung

The garlic chili kangkung was a triumph—again, the portion size was impressive. It’s not often that you get such a generous helping of greens, and this dish was full of vibrant flavor.

Garlicky Chili Kangkung

To wrap up our meal, we enjoyed a classic mango pudding for dessert. This sweet treat, with its creamy texture and vibrant mango flavor, was the perfect ending to our meal.

Dessert of the day: Mango Pudding

The meal was incredibly generous. We were both thoroughly satisfied by the end, with a perfect balance of vegetables and flavors. Often, even in vegan dining, the vegetable offerings can be minimal, but Amah by Ho Jiak goes above and beyond to ensure you’re well-fed.

My husband jokingly says I eat like a truck driver, but even so, the portion sizes left us comfortably full. While my assistant noted that the martini seemed pre-made, the value for money was undeniable. Given the quality, quantity, and variety of the dishes, it’s hard to complain. Overall, this place was worth visiting to, would recommend this restaurant!
