Although not a vegan restaurant, Mr. Yip Dumpling in Neutral Bay, Sydney, is a must-visit for your next vegan dining experience!

Mr. Yip Dumpling is not a complete vegan restaurant, but the great news is that there are so many vegan choices, which are a must-try!

For those who know me, know that I love dumplings. Around four years ago, when I moved to the nearby area of Neutral Bay, there was only one restaurant that cooked dumplings. NOW, there are five! A new restaurant, Mr. Yip Dumpling, is doing extremely well, and I know why now that I have been there.

Must try from the Menu

Steamed Wild Mushrooms with Baby Spinach Dumplings

Don’t they just look like they could melt in your mouth? A translucent gluten-free dumpling sheet — you can just see the delicious spinach and mushrooms so clearly! A generous quantity of vegetables inside, these looked absolutely beautiful.

Steamed Vegetable Dumplings

At a true dumpling restaurant, stopping at just one order is never acceptable! You need to order more! These beautiful dumplings had a filling of mushrooms, zucchini, and carrots. I could just tell that these were fresh and skilfully handmade.

Mushroom and Vegetable Spring Roll

How beautiful does this look? Can you see the fresh coriander leaves that are underneath the spring roll sheets in the picture on the right? When you spot such a unique presentation, it is a good sign that the spring rolls are homemade. Unlike just deep-frying the frozen spring rolls, which sadly happens a lot at many well-known Chinese restaurants.

These rolls had the stuffing of vermicelli and fresh vegetables such as cabbage. Nice, delicious, and fresh!

Tofu

One can never go wrong with tofu! Beautifully deep-fried to golden-brown perfection, topped with crunchy yummies on top! Scrumptious!

Fried Rice

They offered two kinds of fried rice, and I opted for a simple vegetarian fried rice. I believe this would have had an egg in it, and so you can ask to get that removed, which we did!

The fried rice was beautiful, non-greasy, with a nice balance of truffle. As someone who loves mushrooms, this fried rice was an amazing experience!

Fried Noodles

So far, we had mostly ordered only entrées, which meant that even after eating all these delicious dishes, I was still feeling hungry! On the menu, there is one vegan main, which is just stir-fried veggies. So, I ordered a noodle dish instead.

A generous portion of noodles and veggies, I was concerned this dish would be too sweet. Luckily, it had a slight amount of sweetness, which was just right for me. I generally also don’t prefer thick Hokkien noodles, but this was cooked beautifully and tasted flavourful.

My Experience

All the dishes felt fresh and clean and were cooked beautifully. Which is rare, especially with some Chinese restaurants having high greasy foods. No wonder this restaurant was loved by locals and is always booked!

From Friday to Sunday nights, there is an ‘Only Vegan Menu’ option too, which also has the ‘Truffle Veggies Dumplings’, that I would order for sure! The menu also has a ‘vegetarian’ sign, but most are anyways vegan. You can always ask to ensure it suits your preference. Most vegetarian options contain mushrooms, but if you are a vegan or vegetarian and do not prefer mushrooms, then it is challenging. However, I am a mushroom lover, so this experience was perfect for me.

I highly recommend visiting this restaurant!
