This has been my sixth visit to Singapore, and every time I go, I make sure to visit Little India for the delicious food and affordable shopping of Indian cosmetics and Ayurveda at Mustafa Centre.
Starting off with Indian Breakfast at Madras New Woodlands

While I have tried foods in Little India and had the best time exploring other cuisines for breakfast, what I loved the most is trying some of the traditional Indian breakfast dishes for the first time.
There are many authentic Indian restaurants here, in Little India, Sydney, but I have never tried one of the traditional Indian breakfasts before. There are Indian restaurants in Little India, Sydney, that serve a variety of Indian breakfasts, but because I live far from where it is located, I have never gotten a chance to try that authentic Indian breakfast.
Trying the authentic South Indian breakfast
Appam with coconut milk & sugar $5.90 (SGD)
Appam is a traditional breakfast item, commonly made in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in India. A thin, pancake-like texture, appams are made using a fermentation method from rice and coconut. My appams were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. A perfect combination! The appams were served with a bowl of coconut milk and sugar. It was not too sweet and just the right balance.
The best part is that appams are traditionally both vegan and gluten-free. That truly made the start to my day amazing!

I couldn’t just leave with only having tried one dish. I wanted to try more. And so, I also had idli with sambhar. I have had idlis before, at Little India, Sydney, but they were never this fresh. I even had it at the hotel buffet, where I was staying in Singapore.
However, these idlis were different. I chose to have idli sambhar because a lot of the locals were having this dish, and so I had to try this popular breakfast item too! I am so glad that I did. The idlis were fresh, soft, and fluffy! Not to mention, the paired sambhar (curry) was delicious.
Idli Sambhar $4.50 (SGD)
How can we end our breakfast without a nice hot cup of tea? Except this one is called ‘Chai.’ ‘Masala Chai’, which pairs perfectly with the breakfast. It was authentic! I could add sugar on top, which was great because I like to choose the amount of sweetness I want. A hard thing to find whenever I have had chai (tea) here in Sydney.

Shopping at Mustafa Centre
Mustafa Centre Entrance
There has never been a time that I have forgotten to go to Mustafa Centre whenever I am in Singapore. It is a great place to buy so many souvenirs, groceries, and cosmetics at an affordable price compared to Singapore CBD. I especially buy so many Indian snacks!

Bottom Picture: Dried Chickpeas (left), Papadums (middle) & Tulsi Tea (right)
I purchased protein-rich papadums. You will notice I only purchased the original flavour. This is because they are the only ones that are MSG-free. All the other flavours have MSG in them.
I also purchased dried chickpeas. They are rich in protein and are gluten-free! I can purchase dried chickpeas (also known as chanaa) here in Sydney too, but I have never had so much variety in the flavours it offers.
Another one of my purchases was Tulsi Tea (Chai). I personally do not like the flavour, but Tulsi is extremely healthy and beneficial, so I could not resist and had to buy it.
I also had an Indian thaali (plate) located in front of Mustafa Centre. Unfortunately, it was a really bad idea. Originally, I was planning to eat somewhere else, but with hours of shopping and heavy bags in my hand, I gave in to my hunger and went to the nearest place. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well.

My amazing shopping experience was at ‘Mustafa Centre’
